The Solutions Approach
By taking a solutions-oriented approach, IVLO attorneys
focus more on what clients want and how to "add-value" to traditional legal services. Legal solutions go
beyond simple drafting of documents offered by other law firms by providing an organized suite of services
that offer significant value to clients, such as "unmetered" consultations with experienced attorneys,
self-help materials, checklists, case-specific forms and templates, and online resources that can be shared with
accountants and other professionals.
The concept of packaged legal solutions is a response to the
current trends within the legal profession. With the advent of computers,
the Internet, open source, and social networks, the need for enhancing legal services and streamlining
their delivery has never been greater. IVLO is pioneering a new approach
to the practice of law by being the first law firm committed to packaging value-added legal solutions
on a fixed-fee basis.
What do Legal Solutions provide?
Advice and counsel of experienced attorneys
Practical solutions to legal issues adapted to specific states
Documents, forms, templates, checklists, and other materials developed and improved by a peer group of attorneys
Value-added resources and tools that assist the client and improve the process
Personalized services in a responsive manner
Fixed fees and quotes for services provided before services are performed
The bottom line is that packaged legal solutions provide better and more cost-effective results
for clients.
Fixed Fees
Traditional legal services have gotten too expensive. Big firms routinely
charge $700-1000 per hour to consult with experienced attorneys. Those rates are prohibitive for
many small businesses. And the client has little, if any, control over their legal bills. Some
clients feel that high hourly rates are like handing over their checkbook to their attorneys. Fixed
fees offer an alternative that puts the client back in control of their legal services budget.
Fixed fees mean that specific legal services are provided for a set price
that is agreed upon before the services are performed. At IVLO, our goal is for the client to be informed
about what legal services are required and to be able to make reasonable decisions about what services
they want to purchase.
For preparing a simple document, the fixed fee may just be a single dollar amount.
For more complex matters,
a list of itemized fees may be needed to identify different services. If the nature of the legal work
cannot be anticipated upfront, fixed fees for milestones or projects may be agreed upon along with appropriate metrics that
reflect the nature of the work performed (e.g., pricing per meeting, per stock issuance, per negotiated
provision, etc.) and the value we provide.
IVLO is a pioneer in developing packaged legal solutions. All of our packaged legal solutions are offered on a fixed fee basis. If you have any questions about our fixed fees, feel free to ask us. We are always
willing to discuss our billing arrangements and find one that best fits you and your business.
Unmetered Consultations
When legal matters are billed by the hour, clients naturally start looking at their watch because they know that the "meter is running". Every minute that the lawyer stays on the phone or in a meeting is costing the client money. The problem is that the billable hour discourages clients from talking with their attorney. To address that concern, IVLO offers "unmetered consultations" with every fixed fee service.
Unmetered Consultations™ provide reasonable access to an experienced attorney for consultations
(by phone, or at the attorney's discretion, by email) on issues directly related to the matters for which
the attorney has been engaged. The time required for such consultations is "unmetered" (i.e., not tracked) and no additional fees are charged.
Three Levels of Service
IVLO offers client choice. In contrast to the billable hours, IVLO's Three Levels of Service put clients in control of the type of legal services they prefer. Not all clients are the same. Some want to simply have an attorney review a document and comment with respect to key issues. Other clients want an attorney to draft or revise documents, not just comment. And some clients want the attorneys to revise documents and negotiate those documents. To accomodate all three types of clients, we offer three levels of service:
Review & Comment (R&C): This service provides a full review of a proposed document and the issues of concern to the client along with comments or suggestions on how to address specific issues. This service is intended to assist clients who intend to negotiate and draft the agreements themselves. Includes Unmetered Consultations.
Review & Revise (R&R): This service provides a review of a proposed document and issues of concern to the client along with written revisions. This level contemplates a single draft which may go through minor edits after the initial revisions. If we are requested to review multiple drafts, you will automatically be moved up to the RR&N level. Includes Unmetered Consultations.
Review, Revise & Negotiate (RR&N): This service provides a review of a proposed document and issues of concern to the client along with written revisions. In addition, the attorney will submit the revisions to opposing counsel, handle negotiations of the transaction, and keep you informed of the progress. Includes Unmetered Consultations.
Online Terms of Engagement
Like any business, IVLO has terms and conditions of sale. For lawyers, the terms and conditions not only include our contractual terms, but also a disclosure of our ethical responsibilities as lawyers. For most traditional law firms, the Terms of Engagement are provided in a written letter to the client. Each letter is custom generated for each client and tend to vary. To facilitate the engagement process, IVLO provides a simple Statement of Work "SOW"), which includes the business terms, the fixed fee and a description of the scope of work. The SOW incorporates standard terms and conditions that are published online at: http://indigoventure.com/engagement/. The SOW makes working with a law firm much the same as any other professional service firm. And by using standardized terms, the client need only read them once to understand how we work, and then focus just on the SOW for the specific matter at hand.
Solutions Guaranty
We don't sell time, we sell solutions. We feel so strongly about delivering results that we provide an iron clad guaranty. If we don't solve the problem, you don't pay us. It's that simple. Here's how it works. With every fixed fee quote, we describe the scope of the project and the specific work requested. We ask for a retainer upfront, which is deposited in our client funds account. If we don't provide the results specified in the quote, or our services otherwise are not performed to your satisfaction, you don't pay us. All you have to do is notify us (by email or phone) within 30 days after receiving our bill and let us know why you were dissatisfied. We will promptly refund your money and void the balance due (except for out-of-pocket expenses). The bottom line is that we have built our business based on quality. If we can't provide a solution, we don't get paid - that's our "solutions guaranty."
Legal Solutions Counsel
The attorneys listed on our website under Profile are owners, employees or independent contractors with whom we have a written fee sharing arrangement. As provided in our Terms of Engagement, all of the attorneys listed on our website are available to provide clients with their designated legal solutions as requested in the applicable Statement of Work. This unique approach allows IVLO to expand its areas of practice by developing "Of Counsel" relationships with other attorneys that have specific areas of knowledge outside the scope of our practice or provide additional resources in practice areas covered by our firm.
