Venture Attorney
JOHN L. KOENIG, COO
Since 1986, John has represented traditional and high-tech privately-held companies in the areas of business formation, organization and operation, financing (both private placement and venture capital), employment and employment compensation (including equity incentive compensation), customer and vendor agreements, software and technology licensing, Internet-related issues, and mergers and acquisitions. His current focus is on developing packaged legal services, using technology for the more efficient and cost-effective delivery of legal services to early stage companies.
After college, John and his brother started and ran their own executive search firm in New York City. This experience with entrepreneurship confirmed John's leaning towards working with and in smaller companies. He began practicing law in 1986 at Bancroft, Avery & McAlister in San Francisco; a law firm big enough to get plenty of experience, but not suffocatingly big. Since 1992, John has been in charge of his own destiny: first as founder of a solo practice in San Francisco; then after relocating to the Boston area, as a partner with Roger in Glovsky & Koenig, P.C; later as a partner in White & McDermott, P.C. (later McNamara Koenig & McCarthy, PC); and since July 2007, together again with Roger in Indigo Venture Law Offices. As an owner, John understands the challenges of running a business.
John is a co-founder with Roger of the Business Lawyers Network, a network of lawyers and non-lawyer professionals, whose mission is to provide access to people, information and tools that facilitate the practice of law. John currently serves as chairman of the Lincoln Finance Committee, and is past chairman of the Lincoln Community Preservation Committee.
John is a graduate of American University Law School and Harvard University. He is admitted to practice law in California, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
